Heya, Molly. May we see some of Anthony finding Kate and their conversation in your version of the eloping premise?
Hmmm
I imagine Anthony catching her in the courtyard outside, just as she’s about to get on her horse.
Anthony on his own horse, his shirt barely buttoned, no neckcloth his hair still rumpled. Kate startled at the sight of him, her cheeks burning, not ready yet to face him. She reached for the horses reins, hauling herself up and making to bolt from the courtyard but he drew his horse to a stop right in front of her, blocking her path.
“Miss Sharma, Good Morning.”
Kate blinked at him, more than a little shocked by the casual greeting, far more than she would have managed with the memory of his tongue on her skin still so fresh she could feel the warmth of it.
“Lord Bridgerton.”
He said nothing, only stared at her with his chest rising and falling sharply.
Kate cleared her throat, shaking her head against the memory of how his chest had felt, pressed against hers and how she longed to feel the press of his hands again. Longed to feel his lips on hers and the way he’d gasped her name against her skin as though it was the only thing he knew how to say. As though he wanted her the way she had longed for him to.
“Was there something I might be able to do for you, My Lord?”
He gaped at her, “Is there…? Something you might be able to…? Kate, you… left me.”
Kate felt her cheeks flush and she made to move around him, “Well I couldn’t very well wait for your mother to find us naked in her garden, could I?”
Anthony blocked her path, looking a little embarrassed, “Well, I… I do regret perhaps that-”
“Oh!” Kate squawked, “Well, if you regret it then I’m sorry I didn’t stay!”
She saw him clench his teeth, “I did not mean that I regretted…what… occurred between us. I only meant that I-”
“Wish it had never happened?” She finished for him, “Lovely. Now if you don’t mind.” He blocked her path again, “Lord Bridgerton let me by.”
He didn’t move.
“Anthony.”
He still didn’t move and she couldn’t stand another moment of him looking at her like that. She dismounted, removing her gloves. “Good day, Lord Bridgerton.”
Behind her Anthony let out a frustrated yell and his boots hit the pavement, “Kate, I love you!”
And she froze.
